Two Killed in Norfolk Truck Accident
A fatal crash, involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer, occurred in Pierce County, five miles north of Norfolk and east of Hadar. The accident, as reported by KETV7, happened on July 12, 2018, at 12:45 PM, at the intersection of Highways 13 and 81. A woman and three children were inside the SUV at the time of the collision.
Rebecca Fischer, a 36-year-old woman from Plainview was turning west onto Highway 13 from the northbound lanes of Highway 81 when her Buick Enclave was struck by a southbound semitrailer.
At the time of the collision, three children, Scarlett Fischer, five, Lium Fischer, four, and Lara Fischer, two, were in the back of the SUV.
Hadar Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department were the first responders on the scene. LifeNet medical helicopter, along with the Pierce County sheriff, Peirce County Sheriff’s Department, several ambulances, and the Nebraska State Patrol also arrived at the scene shortly after the wreck occured.
Rebecca Fischer was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The three children were taken to local hospitals. Scarlett Fischer and Lium Fischer were transported to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Lara Fischer was airlifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Lium Fischer died at the hospital. The two girls were treated and are expected to make a full recovery.
The semi truck driver, 26-year-old Tanner Labus of Decatur, suffered minor, nonfatal injuries. He was transported to Norfolk Hospital and is suspected to make a full recovery.
Names of the victims were initially withheld to allow for notification of family members. The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
