Almost every product that we use, food that we eat, or item that we purchase has spent some amount of time traveling on United States roads in a semi truck. Semi-trucks are necessary for making many of life’s conveniences possible. But these massive vehicles also make our roadways more dangerous. When a car collides with a semi-truck, the damage is often catastrophic. Truck accidents are different from car accidents in many ways.
Trucks are substantially heavier than cars
The average passenger car weighs 3,500 pounds. A semi-truck can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds. Simple physics dictates that a crash between a large object and a small object will result in greater damage to the smaller object. The enormous size difference between cars and semi-trucks makes their collision very dangerous.
For most of us, driving a car is probably the most dangerous thing we will ever do. Carelessness, complacency, distraction by technology, and reckless driving are all factors that make driving a dangerous and sometimes deadly activity. In 2015, nearly 34,000 crashes happened in the state of Nebraska alone. And 218 of those crashes were fatal.
According to the Nebraska Department of Roads, 63.6% of crashes in 2015 happened on local roads and streets. Interstate crashes accounted for only 6.6% of car crashes on Nebraska roads. However, interstate crashes had a higher fatality rate. Crashes on interstate and other state highways tend to occur at higher speeds, causing them to have increased severity.
At Welsh & Welsh, our personal injury attorneys have been practicing law for over 50 years. One of the many things we’ve learned during our years of success is that in order to provide our clients with the best legal advice and services possible, we must always look ahead. Every profession is currently living the technological future as we speak, and this includes the legal profession. Lawyers who don’t embrace technology simply get left behind.
We realized that to better embrace technology and all the benefits it offers, we needed a website that allowed our clients to easily obtain the legal information they needed at any time. We also needed a website that made it simple for prospective clients to find everything they needed to know about our firm upfront– using any mobile device, including a smartphone or tablet computer.
