Self-Driving Uber Car Kills Arizona Pedestrian

Published on Mar 20, 2018 at 2:59 pm in Car Accidents.

Self-driving car makers have been trying their hardest to perfect their vehicles to make them safe for widespread use. Uber has been testing Volvo’s self-driving cars since December 2016. So far, the tests have been conducted in Pittsburg, San Francisco, Toronto, and Tempe, Arizona. Up until now, the testing has gone fairly well. There was one crash in March 2017 between an Uber self-driving car and another vehicle, but the crash was found to be caused by the other driver.

Over this past weekend, that track record unfortunately changed for the worse. On Sunday, March 18, an Uber self-driving car, a Volvo XC90 SUV, crashed into Elaine Herzberg, a 49-year-old woman who was walking with her bicycle on a street in Tempe. The woman didn’t survive.

Do You Text and Drive? Beware Rising Insurance Rates

Published on Feb 13, 2018 at 1:26 pm in Car Accidents.

We all know the dangerous of texting and driving. Our phones get our eyes off the road, one hand off the wheel, and our concentration away from driving. While so much of our social interactions are facilitated through phones—like texting and social media—it’s often difficult for some people to resist the urge to check their phone despite the major risks of causing a car accident. But this could start to change.

Allstate has a unit called Arity, and they’re tracking how drivers use their phones while they’re in the car. Depending on how much drivers use or ignore the phone, the driver could potentially get punished or rewarded.
